Mr. Claire Lomax, Esq. obituary
Marie-Claire Lomax. Mr. Claire Lomax, Esq. MCL. The common denominator is Claire – which means clear in French. Claire has always been clear – and balanced. In addition to a great sense of humor, Claire accepted everything with unconditional love. She treasured her relationships and was a leader in social circles, civic organizations and in the corporate world. She made a peaceful transition on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
Claire was an amazing mother raising two children – daughter Dylan and stepson Jared, providing a nurturing home in which they grew and thrived. Claire has always had a passion for the creative and performing arts, inspiring her daughter Dylan to pursue her dream of a career in theatre. In addition to her children, she is survived by her mother, five siblings, 16 nieces and nephews, a great-niece, her ex-husband and an extensive network of beloved family, friends and colleagues.
Claire was a brilliant lawyer, serving for over 30 years as General Counsel for Lomax Corporations where she worked closely with her father and five siblings. She had a passion for philanthropy, helping to launch the Lomax Family Foundation (LFF) and serving as CEO for nearly 20 years. Claire has served on numerous boards, including the African American Museum in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Award, the William Penn Foundation, and the University of Pennsylvania Board of Trustees where she served on numerous committees. In 2016, Claire was selected by the Governor to be a Distinguished Girl from Pennsylvania.
Claire is a graduate of The George School, received her BA from the University of Pennsylvania, and received a JD from Georgetown Law School. She was licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Never one to bite her tongue, Claire has been outspoken on diversity issues and advocated for the inclusion of African Americans in the leadership and governance of major civic organizations.
A celebration of life is planned for fall 2022. She will be sorely missed for her unique blend of wit, humor, brilliance, kindness and creativity.
